Which Charger Do I Need?

The right charger depends on your vehicle, your home's electrical supply, and how you use your EV. This guide covers the most common situations clearly and without jargon.

Find your scenario

I mostly drive under 50 miles per day

Recommended: Evolight 7kW Wall Charger

A 7kW wall-mounted charger fully replenishes most EV batteries overnight. It is the most common and cost-effective choice for home installation across the UK.

I drive 50–150 miles per day or have a larger battery

Recommended: Evolight 11kW or 22kW Wall Charger

Higher daily mileage benefits from faster charging. An 11kW charger requires 3-phase supply or a compatible single-phase vehicle; 22kW requires 3-phase and a vehicle that supports AC 3-phase charging.

I rent, travel frequently, or don't have a fixed parking space

Recommended: Evolight Portable Series

Portable chargers plug into a standard 13A or 32A outlet — no installation required. They are ideal as a backup, for travel, or when a fixed unit is not practical.

I manage a business, fleet, or shared car park

Recommended: Evolight Commercial Series

Commercial chargers support load balancing, access control, and higher duty cycles. Designed for workplace and multi-bay installations where reliability and uptime are critical.

Key considerations before you buy

Onboard charger limit

Your EV has a maximum AC charging rate built into its onboard charger. Installing a 22kW unit does not speed up charging beyond what your vehicle supports.

Home supply type

Single-phase supply (standard UK domestic) supports up to 7.4kW. Three-phase supply is required for 11kW or 22kW chargers. Your installer will confirm what your property has.

OZEV-approved installation

All Evogiant wall chargers must be installed by a qualified, OZEV-approved electrician. This is a safety requirement and a condition of any applicable government grant.

Smart charging features

Smart chargers with Wi-Fi connectivity allow scheduled off-peak charging, energy monitoring, and remote control via app — reducing running costs over time.
